Kanawha Parole and Probation
Parole and probation can both keep a released Kanawha County adult under rules in the community, but they begin with different decisions. The West Virginia Parole Board decides whether an eligible state prisoner receives discretionary parole. WVDCR Parole Services then provides field supervision. Probation is imposed by a magistrate or circuit court, often as a sentence or part of a judgment, and West Virginia Judiciary probation officers administer it locally.
The distinction controls where to verify the record. A Parole Board decision, WVDCR movement, and Parole Services file form the parole path. Verify Kanawha Post-Release Supervision

- Check state corrections clues. Review any available prison record and the separate Escapees and Absconders tool. Do not read absence as discharge.
- Contact the correct local office. Ask the Charleston Parole Office for appropriate parole routing or Kanawha Adult Probation for probation routing. Staff may protect personal details.
- Ask for the end record. A discharge document, expiration entry, or court order is stronger proof of completion than a missing search result.
Kanawha Parole Office Records
The current WVDCR facility page places the Charleston Parole Office on Hansford Street and assigns it to Region 2. That region includes Kanawha along with Boone, Clay, Jackson, Logan, Mingo, and Roane Counties. An older state report listed a different location, so the current office page should control and callers should verify the address before travel.

The captured office page helps distinguish current local field supervision from a Parole Board decision or a jail release record.
The office can route appropriate questions about field supervision. It does not replace the Parole Board for a release decision or the WVDCR records unit for an actual custody movement. Personal officer, address, and case details may be limited. That safeguard should not be treated as proof that supervision is absent.
The WVDCR conditions of parole include prompt first reporting, later reporting as directed, monthly written reports, and prompt notice of an arrest. The signed certificate or order controls in an individual case, since conditions may differ.
Kanawha Absconder Status Checks
WVDCR maintains an Escapees and Absconders search as an active exception list. An absconder entry signals alleged loss of contact or noncompliance while supervision remains active. It is not proof of a new conviction. The listed allegation also does not resolve the underlying facts. Confirm a current warrant or court response with WVDCR, the court, or the responsible law-enforcement office.
The reverse is just as important. Absence from the exception list does not prove that parole or probation ended. It may mean only that no matching active exception appears in that tool. A clean completion is shown by the governing discharge, expiration, or termination record. Violations can lead to court action, revocation review, a warrant, changed conditions, or return to custody. Each path requires its own record. The original judgment identifies probation authority. Kanawha Supervision Discharge Records
Physical release and final discharge are separate events. A person can leave prison on parole or mandatory post-release supervision while a sentence continues. A maximum parole discharge date concerns the end point of supervision. It is not the date someone left a prison gate. Probation can likewise continue after a South Central release, and its end should be traced through the court record and Adult Probation.
For parole, request the relevant WVDCR or Parole Services record that shows expiration or discharge. For probation, examine the court docket for an order that completes, terminates, or changes the term. A completed reporting period without a final record is not enough to state that all obligations ended. New cases, warrants, or another jurisdiction can also produce a separate status.
West Virginia FOIA permits a reasonably specific request for nonexempt public records, but privacy and other exemptions can limit what staff release. A focused request should name the adult, identify the case or OID when known, and ask for the document showing whether supervision ended. It should not demand private case-management notes.
Kanawha Adult Probation Records
Kanawha Adult Probation operates through the West Virginia Judiciary, not WVDCR Parole Services. The official Kanawha probation page lists the Judicial Annex as its local office. There is no public name search for probationers. The court judgment and docket must first show that probation was imposed.

This official listing confirms that probation routing belongs to the Judiciary rather than WVDCR Parole Services.
A docket may disclose that probation was ordered without exposing a current officer or all administrative details. Ask the clerk for the public judgment or later order when the online docket is not clear. Adult Probation is the right local route for court supervision, while a parole eligibility or release-decision question belongs to the Parole Board.
Kanawha Day Report Supervision
The Kanawha County Day Report Center adds a distinctive local layer. It has operated since July 1, 2005 and serves Circuit, Magistrate, and Family Courts as well as WVDCR Parole. The center is a structured alternative-supervision program. It is not a jail and is not a public locator for released people.

Participation alone does not reveal whether a person is on parole, probation, or another court program. Consult the signed order and the agency that referred the person. That distinction matters because a Day Report Center check-in does not establish the terms, length, or end of supervision.
Property After Kanawha Release
WVDCR jail admission policy gives released adults a practical deadline that is separate from supervision. Personal property left after release may be disposed of 30 days after the release date. The source does not publish South Central pickup hours, authorization rules for a representative, or a mailing process.
A released person should keep the property receipt and call South Central promptly to confirm current instructions. The property issue does not prove parole, probation, or discharge status. It is an administrative task tied to the prior jail stay, even when reporting to parole or probation begins at nearly the same time.
Kanawha Parole Decision Records
The West Virginia Parole Board and WVDCR perform separate jobs. The Board reviews eligibility and decides whether parole is granted, denied, deferred, or made contingent on further requirements. WVDCR then handles physical movement, release processing, and field supervision. A Board grant therefore does not by itself establish that an adult left custody.
This distinction is especially important for a person granted parole while in a regional jail. The Parole Board FAQ says that person must transfer to a DCR facility for intake and fingerprint processing before actual release, and advises allowing about seven to ten days. The actual WVDCR movement and later release event close that gap. The parole certificate and field-office record then describe supervision.
For a decision question, use the Board's hearing and records routes. For current field routing, contact the Charleston Parole Office. For a disputed release event, ask WVDCR for the movement. Keeping those sources separate prevents a hearing date, grant, or transfer from being misstated as final community release.
Kanawha Parole Status Notices
West Virginia VINE covers all ten regional jails and WVDCR prisons and correctional facilities. It can report covered custody changes, including parole, discharge, court-ordered release, work-release transfer, escape, and death. Users may check a specific adult or register for notices by app, telephone, email, or text.
VINE does not replace a Board decision or discharge record. WVDCR warns that a transfer notice can wait until arrival at the new site for security reasons. In addition, statutory written notice is a separate process. WVDCR states that requests under state law must be made separately to WVDCR and the Parole Board because sending a request to one does not count as sending it to the other.
Use a VINE alert as a prompt to check the source record. Confirm parole through the release movement and field-supervision route. Confirm final discharge through the document that ends supervision, not through silence from a notification system.
